Leaves and shady areas.
The most effective thing you can do to maintain your court is preventing leaves building up and brushing areas prone to dampness. Use a leaf drag mat and or leaf blower to clear playing surface of leaves. Using a wide broom work your way around the perimeter scrubbing/brushing leaves, plant litter and contaminated sand into little piles. The action of brushing helps to disrupt any weed or moss growth that may be taking place. Collect the piles with a wheelbarrow, or wheely-bin or carrying a garden bag around.
Animal waste.
Pick it up regularly and don’t let it meld into the carpet fibers (can sometimes even stain the carpet!)
Re-distributing sand
Depending on the weather, wind, usage and drainage of the court sand will typically work its way to the edges. The sand can be collected and broadcast back over the court. Any contaminates can then be filtered out using tools available to you.
Adding New sand
New kiln dried sand will need to be added to the court at a replacement rate unique to your courts usage and weather situation. It is important to maintain the correct levels of sand so that the carpet pile does not per-maturely wear out. Under-sanded baselines will burn out quickly and exponentially negatively impacting the courts performance and can become a slippery hazard.
FOR RURAL PROPERTIES
A ride on mower can be a great tool for maintenance. Pair it with a grooming boom and you will have the cleanest, most consistent and growth prone court for minimum strenuous effort!
